Updates and Netflix

Okay, I'll be the first to admit it. I'm bad at keeping my social media updated. It's been well over a year since I've posted anything, but it's time to actually start my new year's resolution of doing something productive when I'm not working besides binge watching Dexter. So here's a quick rundown of what I've been up to.

Last June I had the opportunity to be the 2014 Northern Plains Indian Artist in Residence at the University of South Dakota. I worked on expanding my Lakoliyapi series for and exibition in December.

In August, Daniel proposed on a camping trip in northern Minnesota. Went in to the trip expecting to be eaten alive by bears, walked out with a fiance.

After the trip, I started work at a wonderful pet grooming salon as a bather/receptionist. I get paid to give puppies baths. Be jealous.

In December, my exhibition ran for a few weeks. My first solo show was fantastic.

Right now I'm still working with puppies, planning a wedding, and looking for new art opportunities. So here's to working on continuing to update my blog even though I'm still watching Dexter even as I post this.

Cycles Galore

This is the Semester of Cycles. I've been working hard all semester learning how to do walk/run/jump cycles. Not only in 2D where I have been keyframing every movement, but also in 3D where tweens are your best friend. Plan on getting the rest of my cycles uploaded soon. Check out my Vimeo here for a look at my first cycle "Edmund Takes a Stroll." Enjoy!

Passing the Time With Summer Crafts

Since school ended for the summer, I've spent the last month searching for a job so I could do something productive in addition to the incredible internship opportunity I was lucky enough to get this summer. I did manage to get a job, but not til very recently. So since I've just been laying around the house for an entire, uneventful month, I decided to work on a few projects I'd been putting off. On the left, is a cross stitch pattern I started over a year ago and lost. I  found it while moving out of my dorm room and started back up. On the right is the second stegosaurus I've knitted. This one is for my little brother's birthday, I just need to finish the plates and stuff and sew on the feet. I've really enjoyed working on these, but I start work this week and my awesome internship at Fresh Produce next week, so I don't think I'll have much time to keep working on crafts. I will get photos up when these are done, and I also just acquired a whole mess of crochet hooks, so keep an eye out for even more projects!

DSU Animation-a-thon

I am working on the DSU Animation-a-thon right now. Since noon today, a handful of animators are working on a single storyline split into our own individual art styles. We're just over 10 hours in and I am ready to crawl under the desk and take a nap, but I finally finished this guy. Made in Adobe Illustrator and soon to be animated in After Effects. If all goes according to plan, we'll have it all done by noon tomorrow, but either way, we plan on submitting our work to the 2013 SoDak Animation Festival. Hopefully I'll have more WIP pics and a final animation up sometime tomorrow. Wish me luck and send more caffeine.

Planet Earth Tower

Planet Earth Animated Tower from Megan Yellow Boy on Vimeo.

This is an animated tower I made for one of my classes promoting BBC's Planet Earth series. I've spent pretty much every night for the last week staying up to work on this bad boy. I made it using 3DS Max and did post production in After Effects. The audio is the Planet Earth prelude. While there's more I wish I could have added, I'm very happy with how it turned out. Enjoy!

Beadlemania

So there's this art competition at my college every year called Beadlemania. Anyone can enter up to 3 pieces in different categories. I meant to enter an animation, but got sick and didn't get it in on time. However, I did enter my motorcycle Illustrator piece for 2D Design and my clay octopus for 3D sculpture. The motorcycle didn't place, but my octopus won 1st place! I received a Wacom Bamboo tablet for winning. Gonna work on making a great animation to enter next year, but for now this little guy is going back to hanging out on my shelf with some other pieces.

Finished Rototscoping Project- "Spaceman Dan"

Finally finished all the rotoscoping. Going to eventually do some more work with this piece, but I love how it turned out.
